What the roles cover

Where HR meets finance.

HR cost control covers personnel costs, benefits, headcount and contractor spend. The person works with HR business partners and finance on forecasts, and supports workforce dashboards, audit controls and restructuring analysis.

Workforce planning and people analytics roles give leaders data they can act on, from headcount and scenario planning to engagement and retention.

Who we look for

Numbers and judgement.

Candidates often come from HR, finance or FP&A. For HR cost control, we look for direct experience of workforce cost control, compensation structures and budgeting, with confidence in Excel, HRIS and financial systems.

Just as important is careful attention to reporting accuracy and the ability to work across a matrix organisation, where HR, finance and operations all rely on the same numbers.

How we search

From brief to appointment.

We start with what prompted the hire, what the person will own and who they'll work with in HR and finance. Then we approach people who have handled similar work, including those in other sectors and people who aren't actively looking.

Matteo explains why each candidate is worth meeting and stays involved through interviews, references and the offer. We work on a retained basis, with payments in agreed stages.

Questions about HR controlling searches

What clients often ask about HR controlling and analytics roles.

What does an HR controller do?

An HR controller tracks and forecasts workforce costs, such as personnel costs, benefits, headcount and contractor spend. The role usually works with HR business partners and finance on forecasts, and supports the reporting and controls behind them.

Is HR controlling the same as people analytics?

They overlap, but they are not the same. HR controlling focuses on workforce costs, budgets and headcount. People analytics looks more widely at workforce data, such as engagement and retention. Some roles combine both with workforce planning.

Where do HR controlling candidates come from?

Usually HR, finance or FP&A. Strong candidates have direct experience of workforce cost control, compensation structures and budgeting, and can work across a matrix organisation.

Which markets do you cover?

We work across Europe, mainly Italy, France, the UK, Benelux, the Nordics and the German-speaking markets, plus selected searches in the Gulf (Qatar and the UAE).

How long does a search take?

It depends on the role, the availability of suitable candidates and your interview process. We agree a working timeline once we understand the brief.
